Leaders from the private and public sectors join at the 2023 Philippines Conference to discuss the stability and future of the digital and physical world.
In recent years, the worlds of physical and digital infrastructure have rapidly converged. With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, and advanced data analytics, physical infrastructure is increasingly digitized. Meanwhile, digital infrastructure is increasingly influencing the design and operation of physical systems, such as transportation, energy, and buildings. The convergence of these two domains transforms how we live, work, and interact with the world around us.
The ULI Philippines Conference 2023 featured speakers and thought leaders from all over the world to discuss the different trends, especially with the convergence of physical and digital in the way we live.
ULI Philippines Chair Jean De Castro, in her opening remarks, highlighted the importance of such an event in today’s fast-paced world: “It is crucial to bring together government and private stakeholders to understand how we can meet our infrastructure needs while addressing our ESG targets to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth. With key government officials and leading thought leaders in the field, we can build an environment to address these challenges as we move towards a digital-first yet physically resilient society.”
Some key government officials who graced the event included Hon. Anna Veloso-Tuazon, Leyte 3rd District Representative who highlighted the importance of sustainability in creating built environments. Meanwhile, DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual and DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman emphasized the role of government and private partnerships in making an inclusive future.
Sustainability as a key theme
The conference brought together a consortium of influential figures in the region and the local community, who leveraged their collective expertise to collaborate and develop innovative strategies to foster a sustainable future. Attendees, including prominent thought leaders, engaged in a series of productive brainstorming sessions to explore solutions for integrating physical and digital infrastructures that support environmentally responsible practices.
The conference featured a diverse range of discussions on various topics related to physical and digital infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on the importance of sustainability in the development of built environments. Through these conversations, participants were able to share their knowledge, experience, and insights, fostering a culture of collaboration and open dialogue. The event provided an excellent opportunity for regional and local thought leaders to come together, share ideas and knowledge, and work towards a common goal of creating a sustainable future.
A key theme of the event was the significance of sustainability in the development of built environments. Discussion topics spanned a range of issues related to physical and digital infrastructure, with the aim of facilitating a comprehensive and integrated approach to creating a sustainable future. Participants explored topics such as renewable energy, green building materials, smart cities, and sustainable transportation, among others.
Women In Engineering Movement
During the commemoration of Women’s Month, attendees of a conference were treated to the launch of the Women in Engineering Movement, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at recognizing and celebrating the significant contributions of women in the male-dominated construction and engineering industry. This movement seeks to empower women by promoting their active involvement in decision-making, planning, design, and construction processes, making the industry more conducive for them to thrive in.
ULI Philippines Chair Jean De Castro emphasized the timely launch of the Women in Engineering Movement, given its alignment with Women’s Month. She emphasized the importance of women’s participation in the infrastructure industry, noting that they play a crucial role in ensuring that infrastructure projects are designed and constructed in a way that caters to the needs of women and children. By highlighting the power of women and recognizing their contributions, the Women in Engineering Movement aims to promote gender equality in the construction and engineering industry.
Network of thought leaders
The conference provided a valuable platform for participants to exchange insights, network, and contribute to the collective effort toward a more sustainable and resilient future. By bringing together a diverse group of individuals with different perspectives and experiences, the conference enabled participants to network with like-minded individuals and forge collaboration to build the digital-first Philippines.
