A look at one of the oldest parks in Manila
ULI Philippines celebrated Parks and Recreation Month this July with a Paco Park Historical Walking Tour last 13 July 2021, led by National Parks Development Committee Deputy Executive Director and YLG Co-Chair Jezreel Apelar.
Paco Park is a one-hectare recreational garden that was once Manila’s municipal cemetery during the Spanish colonial period. It is circular in shape, with an inner and outer fort housing niches for well-off and established aristocratic Spanish families during the late 18th century.
Participants were first given a short history overview of Paco Park’s significance to the capital city, followed by a walking tour in the circular park. The afternoon concluded with snacks and refreshment.
This was the first in-person gathering of ULI Philippines since restrictions have loosened, following strict social distancing guidelines and limited seats for attendees. ULI Philippines looks forward to hosting more outdoor tours featuring public spaces in Metro Manila.
